For this exhibition, Jonathan Monk follows his attention to the artist Martin Kippenberger and his first museum show Lieber Maler, male mir (Dear painter, paint for me) at Berlin’s Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst in 1981. For the exhibition, Kippenberger hired a billboard painter to execute the paintings and then proclaimed that this was Werner’s first “indoor” exhibition. 30 years after the museum debut of Kippenberger's show, Jonathan Monk commissioned reproductions of 10 paintings by a Chinese painter which were then exhibited at BFAS Blondeau Fine Art Services.
