Bilge Friedlaender (1934-2000) immigrated from her native Turkey to New York in 1958. Centering on “time, repetition, and the mysterious numerical structure of things,” the artist used paper, string, and natural materials to engage with the line and the square as expressions of the basis of humanity. Words, Numbers, Lines is Bilge Friedlaender's first artist book. It centers on the artist's rigorous investigation of created forms like the “line” and “square” and the infinite possibilities of these forms to defy gravity.
