Description

The announcement photo was shot in 1985 by Paula Court during the taping of the UK Channel 4 production, 'State Of The Art' by Sandy Nairne. Warhol and Basquiat's painting “Crocodile” from 1984 hangs on the wall behind the two artists.

In 1984 and 1985 then veteran artist Andy Warhol teamed up with the highly energetic, creative Jean-Michel Basquiat to collaborate on a series of works that combined their distinctive styles in silkscreen and painting. The two created an abundance of highly innovative works that in the end made up one-tenth of Basquiat’s total body of work.

“It was like some crazy art-world marriage and they were the odd couple the relationship was symbiotic. Jean-Michel thought he needed Andy’s fame, and Andy thought he needed Jean-Michel’s new blood. Jean-Michel gave Andy a rebellious image again.” ________Ronnie Cutrone, Warhol’s veteran studio assistant

The catalogue features color images of 17 paintings created during this notoraious collaboration.
