Robert Watts was an experimental artist and founding member of Fluxus. With the creation of SAFEPOST / K.u.K. FELDPOST / JOCKPOST [W.C. FIELDS] in 1961, Watts became one of the first artists to create a sheet of postage stamps within a fine arts context. The stamps were available for distribution through IMPLOSiONS, Inc., a novelty company established with George Maciunas and Herman Fine. IMPLOSiONS, Inc. was founded as a cash generating arm of Fluxus. In keeping with its mission of merging art and life, the store was designed to sell moderately priced mass produced items that could be distributed outside of the gallery setting.
