Description

High Performance was a quarterly arts magazine based out of Los Angeles. It is considered to be the first magazine soley dedicated to performance art. Linda Frye Burnham served as the magazine's founding editor from 1978 to 1985 and Steven Durland was the editor from 1986 until its end in 1997. This folder of material came from Durland and everything in the folder relates to performance art and most of it appeared in the magazine at some point.

Of particular significance is the unique Paul McCarthy piece SIGNED by McCarthy in red marker and dated 1980 along with the 32 photos of the 5- Minute Performance Olympics all with photo credits to McCarthy. Considered to be one of the most influential and groundbreaking contemporary American artists today, Paul McCarthy is widely recognized for his visceral, sometimes hauntingly humorous work often created with unconventional materials in a variety of mediums from performance, photography, film and video, to sculpture, drawing and painting.

The Ice Queen was a puppet play written by Rosalyn Drexler. It was performed at Kornblee Gallery in 1965. The play was directed by Syeus Mottel. Advisor on puppet animation: Bud Wertheim. Puppets and stage by Sara Corless, Robert Corless, and Eddie Johnson. Puppets and voices by Marlene Wertheim, Warren Finnerty, Ruth Ford, Zachary Scott, Severn Darden, and Tony Ponzini. Music by Michael Sahl, sound by Ivan Berger assisted by Ann Perez, backstage by Cathy Solomon and Mark Solomon, costumes by Sara Coirless and Rena Mottel, and consultant to author: Sherman Drexler. 
Rosalyn Drexler is an American visual artist, novelist, Obie Award-winning playwright, and Emmy Award-winning screenwriter, and former professional wrestler. best known for her pop art paintings and as the author of the novelization of the film Rocky, under the pseudonym Julia Sorel.
