Newspaper was conceived in 1969 as a conceptual art paper without text. Committed to presenting photography by leading New York artists of the time, Newspaper was a blend of art, music, politics and pop culture. Its design and layouts pushed the norm and its content was quirky and often subversive. This edition features collage spreads by Peter Hujar, Peter Hutchinson, photographs by Hans Namuth, Steven Paley, advertisements for Jasper Johns at Castelli, Janis Joplin, The Allman Brothers and Country Joe and the Fish (both naked), and “International Free John Sinclair Day” among others. Highly scarce, Newspaper is a gem at each turn of the page.
