May Wilson (1905–1986) was an avant-garde artist active in the NYC art scene from the 1960s to 1990s. She was a pioneer of the feminist and mail art movements and is best known for her Surrealist junk assemblages and her “Ridiculous Portrait” photo collages.
The distinctive May Wilson design was created by spray painting through a paper doily. This piece is unsigned but the spray paint design is uniquely May + "Magic" is also in Wilson's distinctive hand. Provenance: Ed Plunket.
