Holzer's Inflammatory Essays date back to the 1970s when she began pasting them throughout public spaces in New York City as a way to incite people. Written with a specific format of exactly 100 words in twenty lines, the essays take their inspiration from the writings of political theorists, religious fanatics and impassioned 'folk' literature. Intended to be provocative and not necessarily a reflection of Holzer's personal opinions, the texts explore a wide range of ideas that pit these extreme ideologies against popular opinion.
