Jaroslaw Kozlowski, one of Poland’s most recognized conceptual artists, was the founder and curator of Galeria Akumulatory 2. In operation from 1972 to 1990, Kozlowski exhibited Polish and international avant-garde artists, as well as his own work, and hosted the 1977 Fluxus Festival. The gallery was one of the most important venues for the presentation of alternative art in Poland in the 1970s and 1980s. Developing outside of the official circuit, the gallery presented works by such artists as John Blake, Ken Friedman, Henri Chopin , Jeff Instone, Krzysztof Wodiczko and Tadeusz Kalinowski.
The beginnings of the gallery are related to Jaroslaw Kozlowski and Andrzej Kostolowski’s manifesto, NETWORK (NET), from 1971, which was sent to approximately 350 artists and art critics from Poland and around the world, encouraging cooperation and free exchange of artistic activities. The first exhibition took place in Kozlowski's apartment. It was immediately closed by the Security Service, even though it had no political content. During the reign the Polish People's Republic, any protesting activity and gatherings outside the official circuit were immediately suspected.
