Founded in the 1980s, each issue of Parkett featured a series of original artists’ pages as well as a special artists’ insert which could take any form the artists desired within the given magazine format and budget. Parkett ceeased operations in 2017 upon the publication of its 100th issue. Parkett 9 with its folded out Ruscha print is highly scarce.
From the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s seminal American painter Ed Ruscha explored the role of language in painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and bookmaking through a singular, sometimes oblique use of words. These works were rendered in pastel, dry pigment, and various edible substances, from spinach to carrot juice. Highly conceptual, the works also played off Ruscha's early pop roots.
