Provenance: Charles Clough, private collection
An early gender fluid statement, Cindy Sherman gave this book to the artist Charles Clough ca. late 1975. Sherman was a senior at the State University of New York, Buffalo at the time and one year earlier, she, Clough and fellow friend and collaborator Robert Longo founded the Buffalo-based Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center.
Between 1975-1976 Sherman made a number of works with found printed materials, in which she altered the genders of the people depicted.
American artist Cindy Sherman creates photographic self-portraits, depicting herself in many different contexts and as various imagined characters.
