The artist book Grapefruit, first published in 1964, is an early example of conceptual art. In it a series of “event scores,” conceptual works made of instructions that an individual may, or may not, wish to enact, are the works of art.

Yoko Ono is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer, songwriter, peace activist and performance artist.

In 1969, as the Vietnam war raged on, John Lennon and Yoko Ono held two week-long Bed-ins for Peace, one at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam and one at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, each of which were intended to be nonviolent protests against wars, and experimental tests of new ways to promote peace.
