Ralf Winkler, also known as A. R. Penck, Mike Hammer, T. M., Mickey Spilane, Theodor Marx, "a. Y." or just "Y" (1939 – 2017) was a German painter, printmaker, sculptor, and jazz drummer. Penck created "worlds" and "experience spaces", populated with symbolic abbreviations in his paintings and drawings. These took the form of stick figures and graphic icons that seem reminiscent of cave paintings, Asian calligraphy and graffiti art.
This catalog was conceived on the initiative of Penck as he often used books and silkscreen printing as forms of expression. The loose-leaf collection could be acquired individually or as insert 3 to the ring binder 4 of the Museum House Long.
